Easy Recipe for A Basic Beef Stew

This is a very easy recipe for a Crockpot Beef Stew. Once you know how the process and technique, then you can begin to play with your food and develop your own signature recipes.

1.5 Pounds Lean Stewing Beef
3/4 Pounds White or Red Potatoes (Cut into 6's or 8's)
2 Cups Tomato Sauce or Tomato Juice
1 Cup Dry Red Wine (Optional)
1 Cup Carrots (Chopped)
1 Small Onion (Chopped)
2 Cloves of Garlic (Minced)
2 TBSP Paprika
2 TBSP Dry Mustard
Salt and Pepper (to taste)

The Beef, Vegetables and Potatoes are all mixed together and then tossed with the Garlic, Paprika, Mustard and Seasoned with Salt and Pepper and allowed to marinate in the crockpot under refrigeration over night.

Just prior to cooking the stew, I add the Tomato Sauce and the Wine and give it one last mix to evenly coat all the ingredients.

(I love crockpots because you can assemble everything the night before allow it to marinate while you sleep, and it does all the slow and low cooking while your at work  or taking care of other things.)

This recipe for beef stew cooked for a total of 8 hours on the low setting while I was at work. The Tomato Sauce and Wine along with the juices of all the vegetables and beef really produce a nice natural broth.

So there is my very basic recipe for Beef Stew. Probably one of the very first recipes that I learned how to make 25 years ago.  I now have much more in my repetoire, but wanted to share a very basic recipe so that we can establish a bench mark to track our progress as the website evolves. I'd love to hear from you and about your favorite stew recipes.
